Questions about working with us
The mechanics, answered plainly. If your question isn’t here, call us.
What kinds of cases do you work on?
A full range of civil and criminal cases: complex commercial litigation, civil plaintiffs’ cases (personal injury, employment and civil rights), and criminal defense.
Which side do you work for?
In cases of individuals against institutions, such as personal injury, employment and civil rights, we work only for plaintiffs. In criminal cases, we work for the defense. In commercial disputes, we work for either side. We never work both sides of the same case.
How much will it cost?
It depends on what will help you most. We tailor the work plan and budget to your case, and if resources are limited you can pick and choose from our services. Rates and research costs vary with the scope of the project, the venue and the type of case. We send a written proposal with itemized estimates before any work begins.
What will you need to know?
We usually ask a few basic questions. What type of case is it? Which party do you represent? When and where is trial? What are your primary concerns? What is unique about the facts or the law? How much can you or your client afford to spend?
How much lead time do you need?
It depends on how much time you have before trial. A mock trial can take several weeks to recruit participants, prepare presentations, analyze the data, write a report and fold the findings into your strategy. A brief two-hour consultation can happen on the eve of trial if needed.
My budget is small. Can you still help?
Yes. Call us and we will talk about how to use our services effectively and efficiently. No budget is so small that we can’t find some way to help. Much of our work is a consultation of a few hours.
Is a brief consultation worth it?
Yes. A brief consultation, by phone or in person, can clarify the jury issues and help define your case strategy.
I have a court-appointed criminal case. Can I use your services?
Yes. Courts appoint trial consultants too, and much of our criminal work is court-appointed. Our sample affidavit can help you ask your judge to appoint one.
Where do you work?
Everywhere. We have worked in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada, in state and federal courts.
Do you make trial graphics?
No. We don’t produce courtroom graphics or run courtroom technology. We help you decide what a visual has to teach, and can test it with mock jurors.
We’d love to hear from you.
Tell us about the case, the venue and the trial date. No budget is too small to talk.
